NIHR Board holds First Ordinary Meeting

The Board of Directors of the National Institution for Human Rights held its First Ordinary Meeting under the Chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Hassan Abul on April 20, at its headquarters in Seef District.

The Board reviewed a summary presented by its Assistant Secretary-General, on the Board’s work mechanism and that of the quality and standing committees.  Aspects of its legal and human rights obligations, locally and those connected with the United Nations systems, was also presented.

Chairperson of the Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee, Maria Khoury briefed the Board on complaints and requests for assistance and what had been taken to address them.

The Board approved amendments to the NIHR’s financial regulations as well as the financial and administrative audit for 2015-16. It also approved the wording of a decision on a mechanism for the selection of its Secretary General in order to achieve greater transparency that gives all members the opportunity to take part in collective decision-making.

The Board agreed to hold its next meeting on June 15.
