NIHR’s Board of Commissioners convenes its 2nd Procedural Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Council of Commissioners convened its 2nd procedural meeting at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef district under the chairpersonship of Ms. Maria Khouri, President of the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners. Ms. Khouri congratulated the new members on the occasion of the Royal Order issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifah, the King of the country, appointing them to the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners.  She also stated that the NIHR will continue its diligent work to raise the values of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain and to contribute effectively to the promotion of awareness of them, and that all members will continue to work as a team based on the mandate of His Majesty, the King of the country.

During the meeting, the Vice-President of the NIHR was elected from amongst the full-time members, in accordance with the provisions of Article (5) paragraph (b) of the NIHR’s Incorporation Law, promulgated by the Law No. (26) of 2014, amended by the Decree-Law No. (20) of 2016, stipulating that the Vice President shall be elected from amongst the full-time members, where Mr. Khalid Abdul-Aziz Al-Shaer was recommended for that position.

During the meeting, the membership of the permanent committees was also completed by the new members, where Dr. Malallah Alhammadi joined the NIHR’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms and Dr. Fawzia Al-Saleh and Mr. Ammar Al-Bannai joined the NIHR’s Committee on the Rights of People with Restricted Freedom.

All members stressed the importance of working to complement the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the area of human rights, as the High Commission always calls for concerted national efforts at the legislative and institutional levels to maintain the achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain in this area.
