NIHR Council of Commissioners Convenes its 2nd Meeting Remotely

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Council of Commissioners has convened its 2nd meeting remotely under the chairpersonship of Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the NIHR, in the presence of Mr. Khaled Al-Sha’er, NIHR Vice-Chairperson, Head of the NIHR Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up, Dr. Fawzeya Al-Saleh, Head of the NIHR Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms, and Chancellor Yasser Shaheen, NIHR Secretary-General.

The Council reviewed NIHR Annual Report 2020, which is expected to be completed by the end of next August.  The Council also discussed the proposals for the methodology of the 9th NIHR Annual Report 2021, focusing on the mechanism of the NIHR’s handling of a number of complaints received, legal aids provided and cases monitored, which are based on the global impact of Covid-19 and its influence on human rights, how the concerned authorities in Bahrain dealt with it and the alternative and appropriate solutions for it.

The Council also reviewed proposals for a number of topics that will be included in the NIHR Strategy and Action Plan for the years 2022 – 2025, with the importance of including topics related to spreading a culture of human rights and raising community awareness of it through training programs and various events, where the NIHR Secretariat-General was assigned to develop
