NIHR’s Committee on General Rights and Freedoms convenes its 20th Meeting Via Teleconference

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on General Rights and Freedoms has convened its 20th meeting via teleconference under the chairpersonship of Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel and membership of Mr. Ahmed Mahdi Alhaddad and
Mrs. Wedad Radhi Almoosawi.

The Committee opened its meeting by reviewing all its previous decisions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon, especially those relating to amending the provisions of Chapter (4) of the Law no. (36) of 2012 issuing the Labor Law in the Private Sector, with regard to increasing the age permitted to employ children to match the age stipulated in the Bahraini Child Law, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the provisions of Article (1) of the International Convention no. (138) of 1973 regarding the minimum age for employment to which the Kingdom of Bahrain has acceded by virtue of the Law no. (1) of 2012.

Then the Committee discussed the proposal for a round table event that the NIHR intends to hold this month on “Distance Education in light of the Coronavirus Pandemic between Reality and Expectations, prepared by the NIHR Secretariat-General, where the most important themes addressed in the event proposal were reviewed, and the Committee expressed its observations in preparation for the final coordination of the event.

The Committee concluded its meeting by confirming its continuation in developing its proposals for round table events aimed at promoting and protecting civil, political, economic, social and cultural human rights and consolidating their values in the society in a manner consistent with the NIHR strategy and action plan for the years 2019 – 2021
