NIHR Gives a Lecture on the Concept of Human Rights in Cooperation with the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission

Within the framework of the efforts made by the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) to promote and spread a culture of human rights among all segments of society and to develop awareness of the national, regional and international standards related to human rights, Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the NIHR, gave an introductory lecture remotely on the NIHR’s role in promoting and protecting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in cooperation with the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission.

During the lecture, Ms. Khoury introduced the concept of human rights in general, and explained the most important international conventions and obligations in the area of human rights as well as the international instruments ratified by the Kingdom of Bahrain, in addition to the general rights and duties enshrined in the Bahraini constitution.  She also reviewed the role of the NIHR, its specializations, and the services it provides to citizens and residents in order to protect and promote human rights.  She also touched on the legal framework for the NIHR’s work and its relationship with regional and international bodies, and reviewed the NIHR’s strategy and action plan and its most prominent achievements in the area of protecting and promoting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

This lecture is part of a series of lectures organized by the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission to all segments of the Bahraini society, which are presented by a number of officials and specialists in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
