On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC), the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), in partnership with Shaikha Hessa Gilrs` School, organized an awareness lecture entitled “The Rights of the Girl Child” for the girl students of primary stage, in order to strengthen their culture on the rights of the girl child and the most important rights of the girls in general and children in particular.

Mrs. Fatema Al Tarif and Mrs. Maryam Sayadi from the NIHR’s Training and Education Unit presented a brief on the International Day of the Girl Child and the Decree-by-Law No. (16) of 1991 on Bahrain’s accession to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, as well as a detailed explanation of the rights of the girl child in law and the Convention.  The awareness lecture also contained practical activities such as drawing and coloring in order to consolidate the concept of the rights of the girl child.

This event falls within the NIHR’s competences and strategic role in the promotion of human rights through holding lectures and training courses for all segments of society on human rights issues in order to find out the best ways to exercise human rights and freedoms.
