Statement by NIHR on Human Rights Day

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain has given top priority to the promotion and protection of human rights, derived from the values of Bahraini society, its cultural heritage, and its constitution that guarantees all kinds of freedoms for all.

On the occasion of Human Rights Day in which the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, which is commemorated annually on the tenth of December of each year, Al-Derazi said that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the great King of the country, and the vigorous follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has made maintaining and respect for human rights one of the main pillars within its development path and its legislative system that strengthened the principles of justice, equality, tolerance, respect for rights and support for humanitarian action, in line with the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, within the framework of an integrated vision and a modern system that promotes individuals’ rights and provides them with the necessities of a decent life.

The Chairman of the NIHR appreciated the commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain to international conventions and treaties on human rights, noting the great strides made by the Kingdom of Bahrain in the field of safeguarding and protecting human rights and preserving the dignity of citizens and residents under the constitutional and legal frameworks, stating at the same time that the NIHR continues to follow-up and monitor the extent of compliance with international conventions and treaties ratified by the Kingdom that are relevant to human rights.
