NIHR receives the Resident Representative of the UNDP

Mr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Faihani, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), received HE MR. Amin Al-Sharkawi, Resident Coordinator for the UN Activities and Resident Representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP) in the Kingdom of Bahrain, at the NIHR’s headquarters in Seef district, in the presence of Mr. Abdullah Ahmed Al-Derazi, Vice Chairperson of the NIHR.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman of the NIHR thanked HE Mr. Al-Sharkawi for this visit and expressed NIHR’s willingness to activate the cooperation between the two sides, especially in the area of exchange of expertise and training, in complementation of the cooperation aspects and in line with the NIHR’s objectives aiming to the development of some initiatives.

In light of the training course held in Istanbul last year on the Sustainable Development Goals, the two sides discussed the possibility of training of the new members of the NIHR’s counsil of Commissioners as well as the employees of the NIHR’s General Secretariat, in the area of NIHR’s role in achieving such Goals, which is an important step in achieving the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

It is worth mentioning that the UNDP is the United National Global Development Network operating in 177 countries and territories.  In the Kingdom of Bahrain, the UNDP provides technical support and assistance to the national institutions, the private sector and the civil society institutions in order to achieve national priorities and address the challenges.
