NIHR’s establishes a follow-up Committee for the implementation by the government of the recommendations of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of the Kingdom of Bahrain

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has established a Committee to follow-up on the implementation of the recommendations of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the chairpersonship of the Chairperson of the NIHR and membership of NIHR’s Vice Chairperson, Head of the NIHR’s Committee on Civil and Political Rights, Head of the NIHR’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and NIHR’s Secretary-General, where the Secretary-General shall act as Rapporteur of the Follow-up Committee, which shall follow-up the implementation by the government of its reply contained in the Document No. A/HRC/36/3/Add.1, including its approval of the implementation of the recommendations contained in the report of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of the Kingdom of Bahrain (Document No. A/HRC/36/3).

In order to obtain the required information, all the concerned parties in the Kingdom will be contacted in accordance with the Establishment Law of the NIHR, which states: "The NIHR may request any information, data or documents it deems necessary to achieve its objectives or exercise its competencies from the relevant ministries and agencies in Bahrain, and those ministries and agencies shall assist the NIHR in the performance of its functions, facilitate the exercising of its powers and provide it with its requirements in this regard, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in those bodies”.

The Follow-up Committee shall submit a report to the Board of Commissioners, which includes the government’s efforts to implement those supported recommendations, the achievement rates, the obstacles faced by the NIHR in the follow-up, the reasons for non-implementation of such recommendations and the extent of the cooperation of the various parties with the Committee in order to accomplish its work.
