NIHR Participates in the Emergency Meeting of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions regarding the Latest Developments in the Palestinian Territories

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), D. Malallah Al-Hammadi, Head of the NIHR Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities, and Chancellor Yasser Ghanim Shaheen, NIHR Secretary-General, have participated in the emergency meeting held by the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) yesterday, October 11, 2023, via video conference, in order to provide a summary of what is occurring in the occupied Palestinian territories and work to coordinate efforts for joint human rights movements, at the request of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in the State of Palestine.

The meeting concluded with a number of urgent recommendations, including addressing the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and requesting him to submit the request of Arab national institutions to the emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers currently being held in Cairo, with the importance of providing humanitarian support to the Palestinian people and finding a permanent solution to this problem, addressing the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and requesting him to intervene immediately to prevent the forced displacement of the Palestinian people, with the impact of cutting off water, gas and energy and closing the crossings on the humanitarian situation, requesting the High Commissioner for Human Rights to hold a special session of the Human Rights Council to discuss the humanitarian situation, asking the UN Secretary-General to activate the role of the UN and fulfil its obligations and duties in times of crisis and adversity, and support humanitarian and relief efforts, which have a significant impact on innocent civilians, and addressing the special rapporteurs and special procedures of the UN from every national institution to do what is required by their mandates and competencies in ensuring that states are committed to respecting and promoting human rights for everyone, especially in times of crises and wars.
