NIHR Receives Acting Resident Coordinator of UN Activities to the Kingdom of Bahrain

Eng. Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has received at the NIHR headquarters in Seef District Mr. Mohamed Al-Zarqani, Acting Resident Coordinator of the UN Activities to the Kingdom of Bahrain, where he welcomed him, commending the tireless efforts made by the United Nations bodies and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in supporting common aspirations to protect and promote human rights at all levels.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues of common interest and the mechanism for enhancing aspects of cooperation between the NIHR and the UN and increasing the level of coordination during the next phase with regard to technical projects and training programs related to human rights, where Al-Derazi stated NIHR’s continuous readiness to cooperate with the United Nations and its affiliated agencies in a manner that serves the aspirations for the NIHR to achieve its goals and terms of reference in a professional manner.

For his part, Mr. Al-Zarqani congratulated Al-Derazi for his election as Chairman of the NIHR Council of Commissioners, commending the NIHR’s efforts to promote and protect human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, expressing at the same time his readiness to provide technical support and UN expertise to the NIHR to achieve its target goals.

The meeting was attended by Counselor-at-law Yasser Ghanem Shaheen, Secretary-General of the NIHR, and on the part of the Resident Coordinator Ms. Asmara Ajkar, Head of the Resident Coordinator's Office, and Mr. Hussein Janahi, Coordinator of Partnerships and Financing of Development Projects at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
