NIHR Chairperson: National Action Charter is a National and Civilized Model that laid Basic Rules for Human Rights Work

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), on his own behalf and on behalf of members of the NIHR Council of Commissioners, Secretary-General and staff, conveyed his warmest congratulations and blessings to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain, on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the adoption of the National Action Charter, which the Kingdom of Bahrain celebrates on the 14th of February of each year, recalling an honourable page in the history of Bahrain.

On this occasion, Al-Derazi said, “The National Action Charter was the basic building block in His Majesty the King's Reform Project, and a breakthrough of the State of Institutions and Law and legislative, economic, political and human rights renaissance”, stating that the Charter attempted to guarantee many civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights and freedoms, which reflects and translates the rights and freedoms established in international human rights instruments, to which the Kingdom of Bahrain has acceded.

He continued, “The National Action Charter is the main pillar that formulated the features of the Reform Project, through which modern democratic practices based on the foundations of joint action and respect for rights and the rule of law within a cohesive civil society have emerged.  It is the vessel from which all the current achievements and quality institutions have emerged, including the NIHR, which is one of the fruits of the Reform Project of His Majesty the King”, stating that the NIHR’s work today reflects the Charter’s solid foundations for the principles of justice, equality, democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights principles.

He concluded, “The most important pillars launched by the Charter is the human rights and legal aspect, due to its importance in strengthening democracy that is based on principles of the rule of law and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, which are observed by the legislation in the Kingdom of Bahrain in any of its laws, being a system of fair governance, as the human rights and legal system in the Kingdom of Bahrain has developed significantly since the inauguration of the Reform Project and the promulgation of the National Action Charter.
