NIHR Participates in the Gulf Human Rights Forum in Oman

A delegation of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), headed by Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, participated in the forum of the Gulf Human Rights Council organised by the Omani Human Rights Commission in cooperation with the Secretariat-General of the GCC countries over two consecutive days in the Omani capital, Muscat.

During the forum, Al-Derazi gave a speech in which he touched on the NIHR’s role in promoting and protecting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  The forum aimed to review the efforts of Gulf national institutions and their role in promoting and disseminating a culture of human rights among all segments of Gulf society, and to enhance joint cooperation between them and the Secretariat-General of the GCC countries, in a way that serves human rights in the region and works to develop the mechanisms and means necessary to enhance joint Gulf action to advance in the field of human rights.

The forum was held with the participation of heads and representatives of institutions, bodies and national committees concerned with human rights in the GCC countries, representatives of the Secretariat-General of the GCC countries, the High Commission for Human Rights, the regional office of the Commission in Beirut, and a number of official bodies and civil society organisations.
