15 Jul 2019

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) participated in a workshop on the Accreditation of Arab National Human Rights Institutions to the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) for three days in the Rabat Institute in the Kingdom of Morocco, which was organized by the National Human Rights Council in Morocco and the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions.  The NIHR delegation included Eman Al-Abu, Head of the NIHR Complaints and Monitoring Unit, and Mohamed Al-Khudair, Research Assistant at the NIHR Legal Affairs Unit.

The workshop, which was attended by a number of national human rights institutions in the Arab countries, aimed at enabling the national institutions to adopt an effective mechanism of accreditation and providing them with the necessary information to submit the compliance statement file in full to the Subcommittee on Accreditation.  The workshop program was divided into five stages, during which the accreditation process, the file preparation mechanism, the

simulation of telephone interviews, and how to implement the recommendations of the Subcommittee on Accreditation were presented, through a comprehensive application of the various elements of the accreditation process.

It is worth mentioning that the NIHR is an independent financial and administrative entity, which was accredited by the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).  It works with its broad mandate guaranteed by its Incorporation Law pursuant to the Paris Principles to promote and protect human rights.
