Joint Action Committee between NIHR and University of Bahrain convenes a coordination meeting

In an embodiment of role of NIHR in enhancing human rights, establishing the values thereof and disseminating  awareness of such values as stipulated in Article No. (12) of Law No. (26) of 2014 on NIHR; the Joint Action Committee between NIHR and University of Bahrain held a meeting attended by Counselor-at-Law Yasser Ghanem Shaheen, Acting Secretary General as NIHR representative, Dr. Badr Mohammed Adel, Assistant Professor of Public Law and Head of Joint Action Committee, as representative for University of Bahrain. The meeting dealt with some topics related to building cooperation bridges between both parties in all that  concern enhancing and protecting human rights, among which ways of utilizing the services rendered by both parties in field of human rights. In addition, the topics that can be implemented on the ground during the next period were discussed.

The University's representatives commended the significant role played by the NIHR through the Council of Commissioners and the three standing committees emanating from the Council. They shed light on the fruitful efforts exerted by the Human Rights Legal Clinic team at the NIHR to elevate the position of human rights and the concepts thereof at the academic level.

In the same regard, the NIHR representatives commended all efforts exerted by the University of Bahrain, stressing the importance of strategic partnership between both parties the outputs of which thereof contributed to boosting education and enhancing job opportunities suitable for all graduates. They thanked the University of Bahrain for allocating a counter for distributing the publications of the NIHR in the Faculty of Law library. The NIHR has also allocated a special section for displaying the University of Bahrain's   publications in the NIHR library. The NIHR proposed offering some specialist training programs in the future including holding a competition in field of human rights, which will promote the culture of human rights among students form different universities of Kingdom of Bahrain.

The attendees representing the NIHR at the meeting were Mr. Ali Gassem Al Bahar, Director of Department of Training and Education, Ms. Eman Ali Al Abou, Head of Committee Affairs Unit. The University side included Dr. Ali Misrati, Director of Office of Human Rights Legal Clinic and Mr. Salah Mohammed Diab, Director of Center for Legal and Constitutional Consultancy Studies on part of University of Bahrain.

It is worth mentioning that National Institution for Human Rights was established pursuant to Law No. (26) of 2014 to serve as one of the human rights awareness lighthouses and an expertise and consultancy house.  The NIHR practices its activities freely and independently in all that is related to enhancing and protecting human rights, establishing the values thereof and disseminating  awareness of such values. The National Institution considers the Paris Principles, which are some of principles recognized internationally regarding the formation of national institutions for human rights, as its legal reference. The mandates entrusted to them and the procedures determined for them are also governed by the Paris Principles. The NIHR has a Council of Commissioners comprising 11 members known for their competence and integrity and chosen from consultancy and academic entities,  civil society organizations, unions and social, economic and professional entities, as well as persons concerned with the human rights issues.
