Al-Shaer: NIHR’s Strategy has taken into account Development and Economic Challenges of Bahrain

Mr. Khalid Abdul Aziz Al Shaer ,Vice-Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), stated that the NIHR’s strategy for the years 2019 – 2021 has taken into account the development and economic challenges facing the Kingdom of Bahrain through a number of goals, including human rights and sustainable economic development, the promotion of awareness of the principles of human rights in the business sector, which will play a major role in the development of the human rights environment in this sector, and the involvement of civil society institutions in the protection and promotion of human rights.  He added that we have a great ambition to strengthen the relationship with civil society to serve Bahraini community. 

Al-Shaer stated that the most important element of the NIHR’s strategy is the development of performance indicators, which will assess what has been achieved and identify the challenges facing us during implementation.  He explained that the most important element of this strategy is that the private sector is a partner in the promotion and protection of human rights.  We also sought to include modern and new ideas in this field.

The NIHR’s Vice-Chairperson stressed that the concept of "Business Administration and Human Rights" concerns both public and the private sectors, stressing the need to link it with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2030.  He also stressed that the NIHR is seeking to apply the new principles in this regard, to go beyond the traditional concepts contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, pointing out that the issue of business administration and human rights have direct and indirect impacts on the Bahraini and international society.
