NIHR is exploring ways to strengthen cooperation with UNDP

Ms. Maria Khouri, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), received in her office Mr. Amin Al-Sharkawi, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Resident Coordinator of the UN activities in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in the presence of Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadel, NIHR’s Secretary-General, where she thanked Mr. Sharkawi for this visit which comes to promote cooperation between the two sides, commending UNDP’s efforts in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

During the meeting, Ms. Khouri discussed means of enhancing cooperation between the NIHR and UNDP in supporting the sustainable development efforts in the Kingdom of Bahrain, emphasizing her keenness to strengthen cooperation with the UNDP and to use its expertise and initiatives in related fields.

For his part, Mr. Sharkawi thanked Ms. Khouri for the good reception and congratulated her for winning the chairpersonship of the NIHR by acclamation.  He also congratulated Dr. Al-Fadel for his appointment as NIHR’s Secretary-General, expressing his admiration for the legislative development experienced by the NIHR, which serves the human rights system of the Kingdom of Bahrain.  He further expressed his readiness to provide all support to serve the aspirations in order for the NIHR to achieve its objectives and competencies with all professionalism.
