Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights receives the High Commissioner for Human Rights Delegation

HE Dr. Abdulaziz Hassan Abul, Chairperson of the Council of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights, received at the headquarters of the Institution in the Seef District a delegation from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, comprising Mr. Mohammad AL-Nsour, Director of the Middle East and North Africa in UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Mr. Mohamed Hajij, in-charge of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The visit of UNHCHR was delegation aimed at the resumption of technical cooperation between the UNHCR and the Kingdom of Bahrain. During the visit, the most important developments on the work of the National Institution, its objectives, terms of reference and mandate contained in the Law No. 26 of 2014 on its establishment were reviewed.

HE the NIHR's Chairperson expressed the importance of activating cooperation and information exchange on human rights between the two sides, in addition to the importance of the transfer of expertise through the establishment of workshops for the promotion and protection of human rights, stressing the institution's continued keenness to provide the necessary support for the work of the delegation.

On its part, the High Commissioner for Human Rights delegation commended the role of the National Institution in spreading the culture of human rights, and extended his gratitude for the role they play in society in promoting human rights. The delegation also expressed its readiness to provide all support and assistance to the National Institution to enable to achieve its objectives its terms of reference. It is also noteworthy that the UNHCHR in cooperation with the National Institution held a number of workshops on human rights in Bahrain in April 2014.

The meeting was attended by members of Council of Commissioners and Assistant Secretary-General, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
