NIHR receives a Delegation from Saudi Human Rights Commission

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) received a delegation from the Saudi Human Rights Commission, headed by Dr. Bandar bin Mohamed Al-Ayban, Chairman of the Commission. This visit comes within the framework of developing mechanisms for joint cooperation and the exchange of experiences between the two sides.

In the presence of Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadhel, NIHR’s Secretary General, and Mr. Osama bin Abdullah Al-Abssi, Chief Executive Officer of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the NIHR, met the Saudi Delegation, welcoming them and wishing them a good stay in their second country, the Kingdom of Bahrain. She also presented an overview of the work of the NIHR and the most important goals and competencies contained in its Establishment Law, explaining the role assigned to it in dealing with human rights issues in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The meeting dealt with the human rights situation in the region and the latest events and developments in this area. Ms. Khoury stated that the human rights in the Arab Gulf States are safeguarded and protected thanks to the directives and support of their Majesties and Highnesses, leaders of the GCC countries, in order to achieve the supreme goals and support and develop human rights in the region, based on their deep belief in human dignity and their contribution to respect and promotion of human rights.

The two sides also addressed the importance of joint coordination in the areas of training and education, and unifying efforts between them in order to strengthen cooperation in promoting and spreading the culture of human rights.

For his part, Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Ayban, Chairman of the Saudi Human Rights Council, expressed his thanks for the good reception, pointing out the fraternal relations and historic ties that bind them to their brethren in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and stressing the importance of activating the means of cooperation to support efforts to achieve common goals.
