NIHR launches 2nd Version of the Special Training Program for National Security Agency Staff

The 2nd version of the special training program for the National Security Agency staff is being launched on 25 February 2019 at the headquarters of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), in activation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the NIHR and the Office of the Inspector-General of the National Security Agency (NSA).  The program will include four workshops and educational lectures, from February to September 2019, targeting the training of 200 Agency staff members.

Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al Fadhel, Secretary General of the NIHR, stated that the training of the National Security Agency staff falls within the NIHR’s strategy of raising human rights awareness as per its Incorporation Law.  He also pointed out that the program is based on national human rights mechanisms, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the Optional Protocol, and reviews the international treaty mechanisms of the Human Rights Council.

For his part, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Rumaihi, Inspector-General of the National Security Agency, expressed his sincere appreciation for the efforts exerted by the NIHR to spread the culture of human rights to law enforcement personnel affiliated with the security agencies, stressing the importance of raising awareness of national, regional and international human rights mechanisms according to the principles and objectives stated in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as international and regional human rights instruments.
