A delegation from NIHR conducted an unannounced field visit to the Jau Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Center.

In light of its extensive mandate to protecting and promoting human rights, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) conducted further unannounced field visits to the Jau Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Center on March 20, 27, 28, and 31, 2024, following initial observations of protests among certain inmates during a visit on March 10, 2024. These visits aimed to address inmates' concerns and assess progress on previous recommendations made by the institution, with a specific focus on enhancing overall conditions and healthcare services. Meetings were convened with facility administrators, healthcare officials, and inmate representatives to facilitate this monitoring process.

The NIHR reaffirms its unwavering dedication to protecting the rights of every individual, with a special emphasis on inmates in rehabilitation and detention facilities, guaranteeing their access to the rights outlined in national laws and pertinent international agreements. The NIHR works in partnership with relevant entities to identify optimal approaches for achieving viable solutions to improve living standards and oversee the standard of services offered, encompassing healthcare.
