The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by its Chairperson Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, participated as an observer in the 6th meeting of the Eurasian Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (EANHRI), entitled:  “Exchange of Best Practices on Current Problems in Protecting the Rights of Youth in the Eurasia Region”, which was organized by the High Commissioner for Human Rights (HCHR) in the Russian Federation, with the participation of more than 200 representatives of national human rights institutions, and a number of members of the Russian State Duma, where data were presented on the role of national institutions in supporting youth rights, and national legislation supporting the role of youth in advancing development.

During his intervention, Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairperson of the NIHR, gave an overview of the NIHR and its role in protecting and promoting youth rights.  He explained that the NIHR had submitted proposals and opinions on a number of national legislation in the same regard.  He pointed out that the NIHR’s current strategy included four strategic objectives.  One of them was the right to equal treatment, as the NIHR promoted equality and equal opportunities for all segments of society, especially the youth.

Al-Derazi added that the NIHR, as part of its promotion of the rights of youth in the Kingdom of Bahrain, trained more than 1990 trainees this year, where more than 40% of the participants in all activities were from among the youth group.

At the end of the meeting, the Eurasian Alliance adopted a resolution appealing to the governments of their countries in the Eurasia region, with a proposal to pay special attention to the expansion of socio-economic measures to support youth, including the establishment or expansion of preferential mortgage programs, preferential loans for education, and grant programs for talented youth, and the establishment of an international bank for professional jobs for youth.  They also discussed the importance of considering the issue of harmonizing legislation that governs the powers of national institutions in the member countries of the Alliance in the field of protecting youth rights, establishing public youth councils under their supervision, and considering the possibility of including a summer course for human rights defenders from youth belonging to the Alliance in the educational youth forums.
