NIHR receives President of Inter-Parliamentary Union
Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues its consistent approach to safeguarding human rights and supporting all that would respect those rights, with a view to guarantee security and assurance for all the citizens and residents alike, thanks to the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, who works to strengthen the human rights institutions in the kingdom by allowing the formation of human rights national organizations, including the incorporation of the NIHR, with the aim of developing human rights work and promoting the culture of human rights in Bahrain.
This was during her meeting with Mrs. Gabriela Barron, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in the presence of a number of the members to the Council of Commissioners and the Secretariat General, where she welcomed Mrs. Barron, praising the essential role played by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in the promotion and protection of human rights in the region and the whole world.
During the meeting, Ms. Khoury presented a brief on the NIHR and its goals and terms of reference stated in its Incorporation Law pursuant to the Paris Principles and its role in dealing with the human rights situation in Bahrain, pointing out that the NIHR takes a great legal and human rights responsibility and humanitarian work on the domestic and international level, which exceeds the regular concept of legal and human rights work, where the NIHR has become a pioneer in expressing the real image of the human rights situation in the Kingdom of Bahrain in the international arena.
