NIHR Verifies Claims of an Inmate at the Reform and Rehabilitation Center (Jaw)

22 Aug 2019

Following claims published on social media that the administration of the Reform and Rehabilitation Center (Jaw) cancelled a medical appointment scheduled for the inmate Ali Hassan Mushaimaa, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) immediately contacted the Center’s management to verify that claim.  It was found that it was the inmate who refused to go to the pre-scheduled medical appointment and expressed his unwillingness to comply with the administrative rules stipulated in the Executive Regulations of the Law on Reform and Rehabilitation Institution, taking into consideration that it is not the first time that the inmate had refused to comply with the Center’s organizational and administrative regulations.

Accordingly, the NIHR calls upon everyone not to circulate any false, incorrect or irrelevant news and reaffirms its keenness to follow-up the situation of all inmates and detainees and ensure that they exercise all their rights guaranteed to them by the laws and regulations in-force in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  It also affirms that it will deal firmly with any abuses or violations of human rights pursuant to its terms of reference entrusted to it in its Incorporation Law.
