Based upon the broad mandate granted to the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) in the field of protecting and promoting human rights, and the jurisdiction granted to it under the provisions of its Establishment Law, the NIHR Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities has conducted an inspection visit to King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) to find out the general services provided to patients and the extent to which they are guaranteed the enjoyment of their right to treatment and healthcare in accordance with national legislation and international human rights standards.

During the visit, the Committee listened to a visual presentation by the Director of Training, Professionalism and Administrative Affairs Centre on KHUH’s efforts in the field of health, and the societal groups of patients, and stated the procedures in place to ensure that all patients receive treatment and healthcare to the fullest.

At the same time, a delegation of the NIHR was briefed on the hospital’s facilities, and toured the hospital’s pharmacy, colorectal cancer screening office, emergency department, pediatrics department, KHUH school, and reception desk where they met a number of patients, and took notes on that visit.
