NIHR Meets a Delegation of the US Senate Staff

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Acting Secretary-General Mr. Yasser Shaheen met at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef District a delegation of the US Senate currently visiting the Kingdom of Bahrain to witness its achievements in various areas. Present were NIHR Director of Information Technology and Communication Mr. Fahad Al-Mualla and NIHR’s Acting Legal Affairs Director Mrs. Latifa Al-Jalahma,.

At the beginning of the meeting, the NIHR’s Acting Secretary General welcomed the visiting delegation, praised the depth of Bahraini – American relations and reviewed the NIHR’s role in human rights dissemination, enhancement and respect in the Kingdom of Bahrain as per the terms of reference assigned to it in its Establishment Law.

The NIHR’s Acting Secretary-General further briefed the delegation on the Bahraini proven and successful record in the human rights area under the reform project of His Majesty King of Bahrain, which witnessed the consolidation of the human rights institutions in the Kingdom, by enabling the formation of human rights civil associations, through the establishment and formation of the NIHR, as well as issuance of national legislations and ratification of UN charters on human rights respect and protection, which all reflect the leadership’s attention to upgrade citizens’ level and strengthen their human rights awareness.

On his side, the NIHR Director of Information Technology and Communication Mr. Fahad Al-Mualla explained the NIHR’s targets and terms of reference mentioned in its Establishment Law as per Paris Principles as well as the main points covered by the NIHR’s annual report and presented a brief about the training programs provided by it.

On their side, the US Senate delegation members praised the NIHR’s role in the area of human rights reinforcement and protection in Bahrain, recommending the Kingdom’s experience in the human rights area as worthy of access by other communities, and at the same time ascertained their full willingness to provide all support to the NIHR in order to achieve its targets and terms of reference.
