NIHR assumes responsibility after monitoring a critical case

23 Jan 2018

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has devoted great attention to the appeal by a citizen via social media websites to objectively investigate the case of his son (H. B. O.) who complaints of mental retardation due to lack of response to his humanitarian case by the relevant authorities, as he claims, which requires admission in a specialized center.

The NIHR immediately began its procedures by sending a member of the Board of Commissioners, Dr. Hameed Ahmed Hussein, Head of the NIHR’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, to discuss the situation and get reassurance. It was then recommended to refer him to the psychiatric center as a matter of emergency due to his deteriorating health condition that requires close healthcare monitoring.

Through the NIHR’s human rights position and being responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as per its Broad mandate, the NIHR calls upon all the relevant official authorities to speed up intervention and to refer the patient to a specialized center.  The NIHR is in further contact with the relevant stakeholders to follow-up on their commitment to provide healthcare services to the patient in accordance with international agreements and treaties ratified by the Kingdom of Bahrain with regard to persons with disabilities.
