NIHR Conducts an Undeclared Visit to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre

23 Mar 2023

In line with the broad mandate given to the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) in the field of protecting and promoting human rights, and the jurisdiction granted to it under the provisions of its Establishment Law, the NIHR Committee for Visiting Detention Places and Facilities conducted an undeclared visit to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre (Jaw Prison), where the NIHR's delegation visited the medical clinic, and reviewed the health care services provided to the inmates of the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre, under supervision of the Ministry of Health, and visited the inmate's store and viewed the prices of the offered goods and available items.

The delegation also inspected some buildings, met a number of inmates, and recorded their observations about living matters and medical care.  The NIHR will prepare a report on the visit, including observations and recommendations, and send it to the concerned authority, to ensure that inmates enjoy all their prescribed rights in accordance with the provisions of international instruments and treaties and national legislation related to human rights.
