King receives NIHR Fifth Annual Report – 2017

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa stressed Bahrain’s ongoing and unflinching approach of protecting human rights and backing all efforts made in this regard.


He affirmed the kingdom’s full commitment to international law and conventions related to human rights which are an integral part of Bahrain’s culture, inherent Arab identity, Islamic faith and noble values of tolerance, co-existence, pluralism and acceptance of the other.


HM the King was speaking as he received at Safriya Palace today Board of Commissioners Chairwoman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Maria Khoury and members who submitted to him the institution’s annual report. HM lauded the achievements and activities at the local and international level which were stated in the report, praising their positive role in cooperating and communicating with the international organisations and institutions to foster human rights. He stressed the kingdom’s pride in its distinguished human rights record whose principles are based on modern and developed constitutional and legal texts.


HM King Hamad affirmed that human rights in Bahrain are protected and that the Bahraini society is witnessing a perpetual growth in all fields. He pointed out keenness to provide citizens with top-quality services, ensure a decent life for them and cater for all their needs. He expressed appreciation of Bahrain’s good reputation in the world, stressing the good ethics of the Bahraini people who have always been known for their tolerance and co-existence.

HM the King praised the Bahraini competencies working in the human rights field, commending their honourable efforts in defending the national issues and interests and projecting the kingdom’s civilisational and democratic achievements as well as its honourable human rights record. He also lauded the key role of NIHR Board of Commissioners in boosting human rights and raising awareness of them. He wished the institution’s President and the Board of Commissioners members every success in performing their duties.

NIHR President expressed honour in meeting HM the King to submit the annual report to him. She said HM King Hamad directed the Board of Commissioners to continue making efforts to protect and boost human rights in concordance with the aspirations of the political leadership and the Bahraini people. She stressed Bahrain’s resolve to continue promoting human rights and backing all efforts made in this respect. She affirmed that HM the King has always been the first guarantor of human rights and freedom of expression, describing the kingdom’s achievements in this regard as the dividend of the royal will and HM the King’s continuous follow-up.

NIHR President reiterated the board’s commitment to continue working in utter transparency to preserve the human rights and civilisational achievements and build on them.
