NIHR and HRC Saudi Sign a Memorandum of Understanding

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), and Dr. Hala bint Mazyad Al-Tuwaijri, President of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the NIHR and HRC, with a view to deepening cooperation in the area of promoting human rights, within the terms of reference determined by the national legislation of each party, and exchanging information and technical cooperation between the two sides.

On this occasion, AL-Derazi stated that signing this MoU will enable the two parties to work within their competences, in accordance with a joint mechanism, to contribute to the protection and promotion of a human rights culture in both countries, by organising conferences, seminars and training courses, noting that the NIHR is looking forward to developing this cooperation and exchanging experiences in the area of human rights and benefiting from them in promoting its achievements and steps in this field.

He added that signing this MoU with the HRC Saudi will contribute to strengthening the frameworks of cooperation between the two sides in the human rights and legal field, especially with regard to spreading a culture of human rights, exchanging successful expertise and training national staff in the fields of the work of national human rights institutions.

The MoU aims to consolidate the bonds of coordination and joint cooperation with regard to consolidating, promoting, encouraging and disseminating human rights principles and developing their application.  Cooperation also includes the exchange of visits, legal and human rights consultations, publications, literature and specialised studies, in addition to arranging and organizing workshops in the field of human rights and holding joint events and conferences, especially with regard to human rights.
