The National institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Al-Najjar, Head of the NIHR Legal Affairs Unit, and Mrs. Eman Isa Amrullah, researcher at the NIHR Call and Complaints Reception Centre, participated in the Dialogue Session entitled “The Role of National Human Rights Institutions in Facilitating Access to Remedies:  Different Practices”, which falls within the work of the 10th UN Forum on Business and Human Rights held by video-conference technology organized by the Working Group on the issue of human rights, transnational corporations and other business enterprises of the United Nations, with the support of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), from November 29 until December 01, 2021.

During the Dialogue Session, the participants discussed how national human rights institutions can implement the recommendations contained in the report submitted by the Working Group on the issue of human rights, transnational corporations and other business enterprises of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), during its 47th session held from June 21 to July 09, 2021, entitled “The Role of National Human Rights Institutions in Facilitating Access to Reparation for Business-Related Human Rights Violations”.

The worksheets presented during the Dialogue Session by some representatives of national human rights institutions, ombudsmen and specialized experts focused on best practices to facilitate access to judicial and non-judicial remedies for business-related human rights violations, shed light on the constraints faced by these institutions and the mechanisms for overcoming them, and examined ways that UN agencies and other international and regional organizations have developed to enhance the capacity of national institutions to fulfill their mandate on human rights and business issues.
