NIHR’s Chairperson receives European Union Special Representative of Freedom of Religion

Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) received Mr. Jean Vigel, EU Special Representative for Freedom of Religion outside the European Union, where she praised the deep relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the European Union, expressing her appreciation for the good efforts of the EU Delegation to reinforce the relations between the two sides for all that would develop the human rights work and establish the principles of respect for human rights and dignity.

During the meeting, Ms. Khoury stressed the freedom of religious minorities to exercise their religious rituals, within the framework of ensuring public and personal freedoms and equality for all without distinction as to race, language, religion or sex, thanks to the policies of His Majesty, the King of the country, which stress His Majesty’s belief that the freedom of belief and religious practice is one of the pillars of building the homeland, and that the concepts of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence experienced by the Bahraini society in all its forms in the past decades are the source of strength and steadfastness of the Kingdom of Bahrain and conform to the Bahraini citizen's values of tolerance and coexistence.

For his part, Mr. Vigel raised a number of related questions, and praised the NIHR’s active role to shed light on the level of civilizational achievements and human rights gains accomplished in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and expressed his thanks for the good reception and hospitality and for responding the questions and inquiries of the delegation.
