A delegation of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by Mr. Abdulla Ahmed Alderazi, NIHR Vice Chairman, and Advisor Yasser Ali Shahin, NIHR Deputy Secretary General, participated in the discussion session held by Human Rights Council’s Commission on the Follow-up of States’ Implementation of the Provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, at the  headquarters of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) at the Wilson Palace in Geneva.

Mr. Alderazi reviewed the parallel report submitted by the NIHR to the Commission on the initial report of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the progress made in the implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which the Kingdom of Bahrain acceded by Law No. (56) of 2006.  He submitted a summary of NIHR’s recommendations contained in this report and explained the progress made in the implementation of the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights by the Kingdom of Bahrain through its articles.  He also answered the questions of several members of the Commission about the role of the NIHR in introducing the provisions of the International Covenant and its role as a national mechanism working to promote human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  It is worth mentioning that the Commission on Human Rights is composed of 18 independent experts elected by the Human Rights Council for a period of four years.
