NIHR receives Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security at the Council of Representatives

Mr. Khalid Al-Sha’er, Vice-Chairperson of the National institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has received in his office at the NIHR’s headquarters Mr. Mohammed Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security at the Council of Representative. Mr. Khalid Al-Sha’er praised the attention paid by members of the House of Representatives to human rights issues, appreciating the constructive cooperation of the House of Representatives with the NIHR to support human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain by strengthening legislation and laws on human rights to ensure the best practices in the human rights area.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the NIHR and the House of Representatives as well as a number topics related to the development of the human rights file, especially the grave violations against the Bahraini seafarers and fishermen and the importance of taking the necessary measures and actions in order to protect their rights.  The meeting also touched upon the mechanism of alternative sanctions and the NIHR’s role in this regard.

For his part, Mr. Al-Buainain praised the NIHR’s national role and the human rights responsibility at the local and international levels, stressing the House of Representatives’ full support for its professional work and clear independence, expressing his appreciation for the outstanding efforts of the Head and Members to the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners as well as the distinguished work of the NIHR’s Secretariat-General.
