National Institution for Human Rights receives a British delegation from Slynn Foundation

Within the framework of cooperation with international institutions in the field of human rights, Deputy Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights, His Excellency Abdullah Al-Derazi, met with the training program specialists at Slynn Foundation, headed by Sir Robin Auld, former president of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in England and Wales, as well as Chief Adviser Sir David Keane, and Mr. Peter Risk, Senior Director in British High Court at the headquarters of National Institution in the Seef District.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Deputy Chairperson welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the Institution’s role in promoting and protecting human rights. The situation of rights in Kingdom of Bahrain were also discussed, as well as the role of National Institution in dealing with it in accordance with the mandates entrusted to it.

His Excellency Acting Secretary General Counselor-at-Law Mr. Yasser Shaheen presented a detailed explanation of the National Institution’s work, goals, and terms of reference in accordance with Law 26 of 2014 that is concerned with its establishment, in addition to its role in promoting the culture of human rights through training, seminars, and workshops the Institution conducts on a regular basis, whether inside or outside the NIHR.

During the meeting, the various ways of joint cooperation and coordination between National Institution and Slynn Foundation in the field of human rights and the exchange of expertise were discussed.

The visiting delegation commended the importance of the National Institution’s role in the dissemination of the human rights culture, stressing the importance of promoting cooperation between both parties in the field of exchanging expertise and providing consultations that support the National Institution’s work in the field of human rights. The delegation explained that it seeks to build capacities through offering training programs and methods of supporting and assisting the National Institution to enable it to assume a pioneering role in the field of human rights.

It is worth noting that the Slynn Foundation is an educational charity working with senior judges and justice institutions worldwide to improve the rule of law and justice systems, and to promote professional understanding of human rights, mediation as well as European Union law and practice thereof.

Mr. Fahad Abdullah Al-Mualla, Director of Information and Communication Technology at NIHR's Secretariat General, attended the meeting.
