NIHR Chairman Discusses Enhancement of Joint Cooperation with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Arabian Peninsula Affairs

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairperson of the National institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has received Mr. Daniel Binyam, Deputy Assistant to the US Secretary of State for the Arabian Peninsula Affairs, in the presence of Mr. Daniel Cohen, member of the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners, at the NIHR headquarters in Seef district.

During the meeting, the NIHR’s Chairman welcomed Mr. Binyam, and gave him an overview of the NIHR’s function, objectives and competencies contained in its Establishment Law, explaining the role entrusted to the NIHR in dealing with human rights issues in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

For his part, Mr. Binyam expressed his deep thanks to the Chairman of the NIHR for the warm reception, and his appreciation for the NIHR’s tireless efforts to promote and protect human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and praised the Kingdom of Bahrain's continuous success in combating trafficking in persons, pointing out the expansion made by it in the application of Alternative Sanctions Law.

Mr. Binyam also welcomed the promulgation of the Law on Restorative Justice for Children, which aims to support children and protect them from dangers, stressing the United States' support for everything that would achieve peace and protect human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation, especially with regard to technical cooperation in the fields of training and exchange of expertise, and the importance of continuing this cooperation and coordination to meet common aspirations and goals.

The meeting was attended by Counselor-at-Law Yasser Ghanim Shaheen, NIHR Secretary-General, ​​Mrs. Margaret Nardi, Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy to the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Mrs. Tina Soliman, Political Official at the Embassy.
