NIHR Receives Acting Charge d'Affaires of the Finnish Mission
The Head of NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Ms. Maria Khouri received at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef District the Acting Charge d'Affaires of the Finnish Mission to the United Arab Emirates HE Mrs. Marja Itala in the presence of Member of NIHR’s council of Commissioners Dr. Jameela Al-Sammak,
During the meeting, Ms. Maria Khouri welcomed the Acting Charge of Affairs of the Finnish Mission, and presented a brief on NIHR’s role in dissemination and enhancement of human rights, especially after issuance of the Decree – Law No. 20 of 2016 to modify some of the provisions of NIHR’s Establishment Law, which granted it more powers and independence in accordance with the Paris Principles.
She further dealt with action mechanism of NIHR’s committees with regard to receiving complaints and providing assistance and legal advice, as well as showing opinion on the subjects referred to it by the Council of Representatives. At the same time, she reviewed the most important human rights achievements witnessed by Bahrain during 2015 and 2016, which have been revealed in the 4th annual report of the NIHR.
Dr. Jameela Al-Sammak also presented a brief on the declared and undeclared field visits made by the NIHR to the reform institutions, detention places, labor gatherings and health and educational communities in order to monitor human rights situations in accordance with NIHR’s terms of reference stipulated in its Establishment Law. At the same time, she praised the cooperation of such bodies with the NIHR to the good and interest of everyone.
For her part, the Acting Charge of Affairs of the Finnish Mission to the United Arab Emirates HE Mrs. Marja Itala expressed her thanks for the warm welcome she received and stressed her country’s readiness to enhance the existing cooperation between the two friendly countries in human rights area and to provide all support to serve all interests and aspirations.
