National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Participates in Observation of the Parliamentary Elections in Morocco

07 Oct 2016

A National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) delegation comprising Members of the Council of Commissioners Mr. Khaled Abdel-Aziz Al-Shaer and Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel participated in the observation of the legislative elections (Parliamentary Elections) in the Kingdom of Morocco on Friday 7 October 2016 upon an official invitation to the NIHR from the National Human Rights Council (NHRC) in Morocco.

The NIHR’s mission in the observation of Morocco’s parliamentary elections is part of the participation of 37 national and international institutions with more than 4000 observers including 92 international ones.

Competent national institutions known for their serious work on human rights are invited for the observation of independence and neutrality of elections and field-tracking of their progress, starting from the election campaign, through the polling day, and ending with announcing the results, preparing the necessary reports thereon and submitting such reports to the competent authority.

It is worth mentioning that the NIHR has participated in observing several elections including the observation of the recent legislative elections in Jordan.  It also participated in the observation of Morocco’s regional and associative elections held in 2015 among a team of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions.
