NIHR Participates in a Seminar on “Civil Society Contributions to Achieving Child’s Best Interests and Alternative Sanctions”

The National institution for Human Rights (NIHR) participated in a virtual seminar launched by the Public Prosecution on “Civil Society Contributions to Achieving Child’s Best Interests and Alternative Sanctions” under the patronage of HE Dr. Ali bin Fadl Al-Buainain, Attorney-General, with the participation of a number of members of the Public Prosecution and representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, the Ministry of Education and a number of civil society organizations.

Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel, member of the NIHR Council of Commissioners, gave a word on behalf of Mr. Ali Al-Darazi, NIHR Chairman, explaining the interest that the NIHR attaches to the protection and promotion of human rights in general and child’s rights in particular, pointing out the importance of organizing a number of events in the form of awareness lectures and community service projects, with the aim of promoting awareness of children and involving them in carrying out useful works that will benefit them and the society as a whole.

Dr. Adel expressed the NIHR’s appreciation for the tireless work carried out by the judiciary authority and the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs to promote and protect the human rights systems in the Kingdom of Bahrain, especially with the entry into force of the most prominent and latest legislative laws, namely the Law on Restorative Justice for the Children, being a law that achieves and takes into account the best interests of the child in all criminal case stages.

At the conclusion of his speech, Dr. Adel said, “The NIHR hopes that the outcomes of the seminar, and the ideas and proposals presented in it, will serve as a roadmap towards the optimal implementation of the Law on Restorative Justice for Children and their Protection from Abuse, stressing the NIHR’s full cooperation with everyone in everything that would advance the reality of human rights in our dear country”.
