NIHR Receives a Delegation from the High Commission for Human Rights in the Russian Federation

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has received a delegation from the High Commission for Human Rights in Russian Federation, under the chairpersonship of Prof. Tatiana Moscalcova, who is currently visiting the Kingdom of Bahrain at the invitation of the NIHR. The meeting was attended by a number of members of the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners and the Secretary-General. The meeting reviewed the NIHR’s role and missions in addressing human rights issues at all levels.

At the beginning of the meeting, held at the NIHR headquarters in the Seef District, the Chairperson of the NIHR welcomed the visiting delegation, reviewing a brief on the NIHR’s role and missions since its establishment in 2009, and the achievements it made for the sake of protecting and supporting human rights in the Kingdom.  The two sides also addressed the distinguished mutual relations between the two friendly countries, stating the importance of continuing to foster those relations in the area of human rights, for the aim of deepening the cooperation to protect and follow-up the rights of the citizens of each country in the other.

Al-Derazi also underscored the importance of activating the memorandum of understanding that has recently been signed between the two sides, sharing information and technical cooperation and holding joint events and activities through the organization of scientific and practical conferences, forums, courses and training programs in order to introduce human rights concepts and principles at various local, national and regional levels.

For her part, Prof. Moscalcova expressed her sincere thanks and appreciation to Chairman and Members of the NIHR Council of Commissioners in the Kingdom of Bahrain for this invitation and for giving a chance to closely review the NIHR’s effective role in the protection of the human rights systems and its efforts to enhance human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain in cooperation with its local partners.

Prof. Moscalcova officially invited the NIHR to be a Permanent Observing Member in the annual meetings of the Eurasian Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions in that region, which are held in the last quarter each year.  She also invited the NIHR to participate in the International Scientific and Practical Conference on the Challenges to the Protection of Human Rights in Eurasia by sharing the best practices, which is held at the end of each year in Moscow, the capital of Russia.

It is worth mentioning that the High Commission for Human Rights in the Russian Federation is a counterpart institution for the NIHR in the Kingdom of Bahrain, incorporated in accordance with the Paris Principles on the position of the national human rights institutions, which has the highest rating granted to active and functional national institutions at the national, regional and international levels and has the full observer status at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
