Conclusion of the Second Round of the Universal Periodic Review:

The Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council held its thirteenth session at the United Nations Office in Geneva (Palace of Nations), opening the second round period, which runs from May 2012 until November 2016.

The process of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process is unique in that it includes a review of the human rights records of all 193 Member States of the United Nations once every four and a half years. Three sessions will be held each year to review approximately 14 countries in each session.

The review gives each member state the opportunity to declare what actions it has taken to improve the human rights situation in order to meet their human rights obligations.

The Kingdom of Bahrain opened the thirteenth session on May 21, 2012. The delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain was led by Dr. Salah Bin Ali Abdul Rahman, Minister of State for Human Rights, who gave a speech in which he reviewed the second national report of Bahrain, containing the achievements and results in the field of human rights during the past four years.

The report of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which included 176 recommendations, was adopted on May 25, 2012,

It is worth noting that the Kingdom of Bahrain submitted two brief reports on the follow-up of the implementation of voluntary commitments, the results and recommendations of Universal Periodic Review. (The first was in 2009).
