NIHR Board of Commissioners Convenes its 1st Procedural Meeting via Video Conference

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Council of Commissioners has convened its 1st procedural meeting via video conference under the chairpersonship of Dr. Fawzya Al-Saleh, being the oldest member, in implementation of the provisions of the NIHR Establishment Law no. (26) of 2014 amended by the Decree-Law no. (20) of 2016, where she congratulated the members of the Board on the occasion of the honorable honor by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, may God protect him, and their assignment by His Majesty as per the Royal Decree no. (22) of 2021 to work for the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), affirming their aspiration to work to elevate human rights values in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Council of Commissioners reviewed the Law no. (26) of 2014 establishing the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), amended by the Decree-Law no. (20) of 2016, and the internal regulations regarding the organization and functioning of the NIHR Council of Commissioners.
Then, the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson were elected. Mr. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi won the presidency of the NIHR by acclamation while Mr. Khalid Abdul-Aziz Al-Sha’er won the position of the Vise-President.
On this occasion, Mr. Ali Al-Derazi, President of the NIHR, thanked the members of the Council of Commissioners for granting him trust by electing him as Chairman of the Council, adding that he is honored to be among this team, is fully confident that we will
work as one team in order to enhance human rights awareness in the Kingdom of Bahrain and cooperate with the official authorities to support, protect and promote human rights.
During the meeting, the members of the NIHR permanent quality committees were selected and the heads of the committees were elected, and the results came as follows: The Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up will be chaired by Mr. Khaled Abdul-Aziz Al-Sha’er with the membership of Dr. Hoorya Abbas Al-Dairi, Mrs. Rawdha Salman Al-Aradi and Mrs. Hala Ramzy Fayez, the Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms will be chaired by Dr. Fawzeya Saeed Al-Saleh with the membership of Dr. Badr Mohamed Adel and Mr. Ahmed Sabah Al-Salloom, the Committee on Visiting Detention Centres and Facilities will be chaired by Dr. Malallah Jaafar Al Hammadi with the membership of Mrs. Dina Abdulrahman Al-Ladhi and Mr. Daniel Haroun Cohen.
