NIHR holds First Procedural Meeting

The Board of Directors of the National Institution for Human Rights held its First Procedural Meeting at its headquarters in Seef District. Dr. Abdul Aziz Hassan Abul was elected as the President and, Abdullah Ahmed Alderazi was elected as Vice President.
Standing Committee Heads were also elected during the meeting. Maria Khoury was elected as Chairperson of the Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-Up Committee, while Jameela Salman was chosen as the Head of Civil and Political Rights Committee. Farid Ghazi was elected as a Chairman of the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Committee.
Furthermore, the decision was made to hold the First Regular Meeting of the Board, on April 20.
It is worth mentioning that Law No. 26 for the year 2014 established the NIHR. It looks at the promotion, development and protection of human rights, and works to consolidate values and awareness as well as contribute in guaranteeing everyone the right to exercise full freedom and independence, as adopted by the United Nations General Assembly by Resolution No. 48/134 of 1993.
His Majesty the King issued Royal Decree No. 20 for 2015 to appoint NIHR Commissioners and assign them to work as beacons of human rights awareness, give advice and, share expertise in the field of human rights.
