Board of Commissioners holds its Fifth Ordinary Meeting

The Board of Directors of the National Institution for Human Rights held its Fifth Ordinary Meeting under the Chairmanship of His Excellency, Dr. Abdulaziz Hassan Abul at its headquarters in Seef District.
Mr. Abul welcomed members and praised their efforts in raising the level of the NIHR as well as in the promotion and protection of human rights. The Board applauded the importance of continuing efforts to help it achieve recognition from the International Coordinating Committee, which operates under the umbrella of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva.
Chairman of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Farid Ghazi submitted a proposal to amend Article 45, Law 23 of 2014 issued as a traffic law. This was approved and will be submitted to the concerned authorities.
The Board also discussed a proposal to hold a training course on human rights for its members next year. It also approved a mechanism for discussions related to the legislative aspects of the NIHR website.
Chairperson of Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-Up Maria Khoury reviewed the complaints received and requests for legal assistance and monitoring and briefed the Board on the follow-up action taken. The Assistant Secretary General presented the Secretary-General's report for the third quarter of 2015.
The Board agreed to hold its next meeting in January.
