NIHR Council of Commissioners convenes its 11th Regular Meeting

The eleventh regular meeting of the National Institution for Human Rights' Board of Commissioners was chaired by Engineer Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi. Council members, along with the Secretary-General, participated in the meeting. The session commenced with a discussion on the institution's work plan for the first half of 2024, focusing on implementing tasks and responsibilities outlined in the establishment law. This aligns with the Paris Principles governing national institutions dedicated to promoting and safeguarding human rights. Emphasis was placed on fostering collaboration with various stakeholders to execute the institution’s strategy and work plan for the 2022-2025 period.
The heads and representatives of permanent qualitative committees presented reports on their committees' recent activities. Rawda Al-Aradi, Chair of the Complaints, Monitoring, and Follow-up Committee, provided details on 82 cases, including 66 complaints and legal aid cases and 16 monitoring cases, received and handled from October to the present. She highlighted efforts to engage with 22 complainants in person and initiate communication with relevant authorities for resolution.
Dr. Fawzia Al-Saleh, Chair of the Public Rights and Freedoms Committee, summarized the committee's key activities. This included reviewing proposed laws from constitutional authorities, offering the institution's perspectives, and suggesting activities to enhance human rights awareness throughout society. The committee aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the National Institution's role in promoting and protecting human rights.
The meeting concluded with a review of the General Secretariat's third-quarter report for 2023. The Secretary-General presented an overview of activities during that period, and the Council members approved the report.
