NIHR’s Council of Commissioners convenes its 9th regular meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Council of Commissioners convened its 9th regular meeting at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef District under chairpersonship of Chairperson of the Council of Commissioners Dr. Abdul-Aziz Hassan Abul.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Abdul-Aziz H. Abul welcomed members of NIHR’s Council of Commissioners and praised their participation in regional and international events and activities recently joined by the NIHR. The panel further reviewed the congratulation letter received by Asia and Pacific Forum (APC)’s Managing Director on the occasion of NIHR’s membership in the Forum, wishing it to play an effective role in human rights development, fostering and protection. Member of NIHR’s Committee on Civil and Political Rights Dr. Badr Mohamed Adel presented Committee’s proposal on the controls of giving provisional exit permission to inmates and remand prisoners in reform and rehabilitation centers to attend funerals of their deceased relatives. The NIHR’s Council of Commissioners endorsed the proposal to be referred to the concerned body.
On her side, Head of NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Ms. Maria Khouri referred to the complaints recently received by the NIHR and the actions that were taken thereof, as well as applications for legal assistance submitted to the NIHR directly or communicated through local newspapers and social media. The panel further reviewed a number of modifications to the Employees Affairs List of NIHR General Secretariat, for which appropriate decision were taken. Moreover, the NIHR General Secretariat’s action report for the third quarter of 2016 was approved during the meeting.
