NIHR Board of Commissioners holds its 4TH Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Council of Commissioners held at the NIHR’s headquarters in Seef district its 4th regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Ms. Maria Khouri, Chairperson of the NIHR.
The Council was briefed on the mechanism and stages of receiving complaints and providing legal assistance as well as the actions taken thereupon via the complaints e-system, where the Council approved the necessary amendments to the Complaints Receipt Guide adopted in 2015 in order to cope with the changes and developments in the mechanism of receiving complaints since that time until now, especially after the amendment to the law of the NIHR by Decree-Law No. (20) of 2016, and the inauguration of the toll-free hotline for receiving complaints.
The Council was briefed on the work of NIHR’s permanent committees and listened to a summary of the complaints received by the NIHR, the requests for legal assistance submitted to the NIHR, the monitoring cases via the media and social means of communication and he actions taken thereupon. The council of Commissioners also adopted the Action Report of the NIHR’s General Secretariat for the fourth quarter of 2017.
The Council was informed about the participation by NIHR’s Vice chairperson, Mr. Abdullah Al-Derazi, in the Technical Group established by the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF) on assessing the capabilities of the Pakistan National Human Rights Institution, which includes experts from the APF, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), where members wished it success in its next two-week mission in the capital Islamabad.
The Council of Commissioners also accepted a number of donations that support the establishment of the International Forum on Business and Human Rights, which will be held by the NIHR at the end of next February.
