NIHR Council of Commissioners convenes its 16th Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights' (NIHR) Council of Commissioners held its sixteenth Regular Meeting under the chairmanship of Eng. Ali Ahmad Alderazi, with the participation of council members and the presence of the Secretary-General. The council commenced its activities by reviewing reports presented by the heads of the permanent specialized committees about the past period. Ms. Rodha Al-Aradi, head of the Complaints, Monitoring, and Follow-Up Committee, reported on 54 cases monitored, complaints received, and legal assistance provided during the past three months, in addition to interactions with relevant authorities to resolve these issues.
Dr. Mal Allah Al-Hammadi, head of the Detention and Facilities Visitation Committee, outlined his committee's activities, which included five announced visits and one unannounced visit to correctional and rehabilitation centers and care homes, aimed at monitoring human rights conditions and verifying the availability of basic rights for individuals in these institutions.
Dr. Fawzia Al-Saleh, head of the Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms, summarized her committee's efforts, which included proposals for a series of legal lectures for Ministry of Interior personnel, educational programs for English-language school students, and a number of advisory opinions submitted to the National Assembly.
Dr. Houriya Al-Dairi, Child Rights Commissioner, provided an overview of her activities, which involved handling custody complaints, attending court sessions to ensure fair trials, and conducting lectures and workshops on the role and responsibilities of the Child Rights Commissioner.
