NIHR Council of Commissioners Convenes its 5th Regular Meeting

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National institution for Human Rights (NIHR), chaired the 5th meeting of the NIHR Council of Commissioners, with the participation of members of the Council and NIHR Secretary-General.
At the beginning of the meeting, NIHR Chairman pointed out that Article (32) of the Internal Regulation for the Work and Organization of the Council of Commissioners stipulated that the permanent committees elect a head from their members, for a period of one year, which renewable for other similar terms, by the majority of the number of members, and that in case that more than one member is equal in obtaining this majority, the selection shall be made among them by lot. He said that the current heads of the committees won by recommendation on May 2021, for a period of one year that ends on May 2022, and that the current heads were asked to discuss this matter in each of their committees separately, and that after the discussions, the three permanent committees recommended the current heads to chair the committees for a second term for another year.
Eng. Al-Derazi stated that the Council of Commissioners adopted those results, where the Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up was chaired by Mr. Khalid Abdul-Aziz Al-Sha’er with the membership of Mrs. Rawdha Salman Al-Aradi, Mrs. Hala Ramzy Fayez and Dr. Hooreya Abbas Hassan, the Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms was chaired by Dr. Fawzeya Saeed Al-Saleh with the membership of Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel and Mr. Ahmad Subah Al-Saloom, and the Committee on Visiting Detection Places and Facilities was chaired by Dr. Malallah Jaffar Al-Hammadi with the membership of Mrs. Deena Abdul-Rahman Al-Ladhi and Mr. Daniel Haroun Cohen.
Then, the heads of NIHR permanent committees (the Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms, the Committee on Visiting Detection Places and Facilities and the Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up) presented a brief of the most essential actions of their committees during the last three months. The NIHR Chairman also presented a brief on his participation in the meeting of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights (AOHR) in the Arab Parliament at the invitation of HE Mr. Adel El-Assoumi, President of the Arab Parliament, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the AOHR, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two sides in Cairo, which is considered the first MoU to be signed by the AOHR with a national institution, aiming at cooperation, exchange of expertise and knowledge and holding various events. He also touched on his meeting with Mrs. Moshira Khattab, President of the National Human Rights Council in Cairo, at the sidelines of the visit, where the two sides agreed to sign an MoU. He also presented a brief on his meeting with Mr. Alaa Shalaby, President of the Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR), where the two sides discussed ways to enhance areas of cooperation and coordination in the field of preparing training programs on the protection and promotion of human rights.
The Council of Commissioners discussed the upcoming international conference that the NIHR intends to implement, which is related to Child Restorative Justice Law, and discussed the role of the supporting bodies and what partners can provide to make it a success and bring it out in an honourable manner, being a pioneering step in the justice system and the protection of children’s rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
