NIHR Council of Commissioners Convenes its 6th Regular Meeting

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National institution for Human Rights (NIHR), chaired the 6th meeting of the NIHR Council of Commissioners at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef District. Present were all members of the Council of Commissioners and the Secretary-General.
At the beginning of the meeting, the heads of the permanent specific committees presented an overview of the works and achievements of their committees in the past three months. Then, the Council approved the new formation of the membership of the permanent specific committees, which aims to benefit from the available expertise and advance human rights work in all areas and the tasks assigned to the NIHR, where Mrs. Rawdha Al-Aradi won the chairpersonship of the NIHR Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up, membered by Mr. Khaled Al-Sha’er, Mr. Ahmed Al-Saloum and Mrs. Deena El-Ladhi. In addition, D. Fawzia El-Saleh won the chairpersonship of the NIHR Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms, membered by D. Bader Mohamed Adel and Mr. Daniel Cohen. With regard to the NIHR Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities, its chairpersonship was won by D. Malallah Al-Hammadi, membered by Mrs. Hala Ramzi and D. Hooreya Hassan.
On the other hand, Chairman of the NIHR presented a summary of the NIHR’s proposal to hold an international conference on the Law on Alternative Sanctions and Measures, being a qualitative experience in criminal legislation, which is proposed to be held at the end of this month, with the participation of a number of Arab and foreign national human rights institutions to review the experiences of their countries in this field, with a wide participation by ministries and official bodies in Bahrain, as well as foreign experts and specialists.
The NIHR Council of Commissioners also discussed the proposed media plan of the NIHR, and how to enhance the media aspect of its work by developing its media strategy to highlight the efforts and achievements made by the NIHR, especially in the field of protecting human rights in a broader sense.
